Will he or won't he?
We were told Sam was having a presser on Wednesday and the given reason was to announce he's having surgery for his injured shoulder, he's hanging up his Sooner shoulder pads and school officials can go ahead and start working on that statue in Heisman Park.

Who said Sam couldn't take a hit?
Well, we're on Day 3 now and still no word out of the Bradford camp. Naturally, OU would love for him to come back this year. The Sooners till have reachable goals in sight, such as the Big 12 championship and a major bowl bid. There are even rumblings now that Sam may go ahead and elect to have the surgery (good idea) and come back for his senior year in 2010 with the hopes of regaining the NFL draft momentum he had coming out of 2008 (your choice, Sam ... glad I don't have to make it).
The view here is that Sam has done so much for the university already ... while we'd love to see you in crimson and cream again, you really have nothing left to prove and if the NFL is where you truly want to be, go. Have your surgery, get ready for the combines and show the scouts that arm, accuracy and decision-making that won you that Heisman last year. OU's going to be fine with the Stache. Josh Heupel has a pretty impressive track record of coaching up QBs so far and if Landry gets some tools around him and, most importantly, in front of him, we may see the next superstar flinging footballs all over Owen Field very soon.
We'll understand, though, that since you're a Sooner legacy and your lifelong dream has been to play quarterback at OU, that if you want to come back next season and prove that you're still that same Sam we saw throw for 5,000 yards and 50 TDs last year, by all means.
Or, as our friend Blatant Homer succinctly put it ... Sam, take all the time you need.
